Moldova will participate with several wines in an evaluation of Romania's and Moldova's best wines, which will be chosen by international connoisseurs and included in the Wine Book of Romania and Moldova. The event will take place on August 26-27 in Cund village, Maramures district, Romania. The jury will taste and assess about 250 wines, 46 of which are produced by 16 companies from Moldova, IPN reports.
“The Wine Book of Romania and Moldova will allow us to integrate our products in a large cultural context that is relevant for consumers. It is natural for us to be part of this project because the same grape varieties are cultivated in Moldova and Romania, some of them local, unique in the whole world”, said Dumitru Munteanu, head of the National Office for Vine and Wine.
Initiator of the project and jury chairwoman Marinela Vasilica Ardelean visited about 100 wineries in Moldova and Romania, between April and August, and tasted about 3000 wines. From each winemaker, she chose up to 5 young wines and up to 4 wines older than 10 years. “We have exceptional wines and it is important to know them and promote them, which will bring great benefits for the wine industry in our countries”, said Ardelean.
The jury will be divided into 4 teams that will taste, discuss and rate each wine with 3 to 5 stars (3 – good, 4 – very good, 5 – excellent). Wines that won't receive 3 stars will be disqualified, while those that receive the best scores will be included in the guidebook of the region's wines.
The tome will be launched in March 2016 and will be a complex tool for learning about and classifying the best wines of Moldova and Romania, both for the general public and for specialists and importers.
