For the first time, Moldovan garlic reached the European market. This year, Moldovan producers exported 10 tonnes of garlic to the EU. Although the amount exported is not large, it is a positive signal and a start, said Deputy Prime Minister Dumitru Alaiba, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, quoted by IPN.
"For products that have free access to the European Union – apples, grapes, plums, cherries, and others – we have seen increases year after year. But it was not the case with garlic. In 2024, the first quantities of garlic were exported to the EU. Our entrepreneurs made sales to the value of 764,000 lei," said Dumitru Alaiba.
"And we will enjoy every success of a new exported product because behind it there is a concrete entrepreneur who has taken the opportunities offered by the opening to the EU. We are talking about developing businesses, jobs maintained or created, and stability for families that depend on these incomes.”
