The 15th National Wine Day entitled “Man is the Soul of Wine” will be held in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau, as earlier, on October 1-2, IPN reports.
The holiday will be held under the common country brand name “Wine of Moldova. Living Legend” and will aim to discover legends about the Moldovan wine and century-old winemaking traditions. The visitors will be able to taste over 400 wines and to eat traditional food. More than 40 large and small winemakers and cognac factories will come together under a common brand to present products of a high quality.
The event will include “adventures on the Road of the Wine” with thematic trips from the heart of Chisinau to wineries, underground galleries, wine cellars, vineyards and pensions, the “Wine School” with thematic seminars given by sommeliers, a two-day concert with ensembles, brass and folk music bands and orchestras from the three wine regions of Moldova - Valul lui Traian, Codru and Stefan Voda, and a Craftsmen’s Fair and Sale with works centering on grapes, wine and vineyards. Those who want will be able to take part in pottery, painting, sculpturing and other kinds of workshops.
The holiday is organized by the National Office of Vine and Wine, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and the Wine Producers and Exporters Association of Moldova with the assitance of the event’s strategic partner USAID Moldova Competitiveness Project.
In 2015, the National Wine Day involved about 17,000 people and 10 winemakers, as opposed to approximately 100,000 people and almost 40 winemakers the previous years. The decline in the number of visitors was due to the modification of the holiday’s format. This was hosted by ten wine companies and the Moldovan Small Wine Producers Association, the festivities in the central square of Chisinau being abandoned.
