A Public Depository of Financial Statements – an information system that provides online data about the financial statements of companies – was launched in the Republic of Moldova. The information can be accessed free of charge, IPN reports.

Deputy Prime Minister Dumitru Alaiba, Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, argued that the Public Depository of Financial Statements, which can already be accessed, represents an important step in the digitization process. “Through the Financial Reports Depository, we ensure greater transparency, simplify data publication and modernize the reporting system in the Republic of Moldova. First of all, we are talking about transparency. This Depository allows public access to companies’ financial data,” the minister said in the launch.

Minister of Finance Petru Rotaru said that complex data provided by the State Tax Service, the National Bank of Moldova, the Ministry of Finance and other institutions can be accessed on this platform. “It is a conglomerate of information that can be consumed by the general public, being credible and accurate. It is important that not only financial reports, but also the documents necessary in the process of approving financial reports should be published on this platform. We are talking about the management report, the audit report, which should be attached,” noted the minister.

National Bureau of Statistics director general Oleg Cara said that the Depository is a friendly tool for a large number of users from the academia, the research community, civil society to view and download financial statements in various formats, as well as to generate tables for analysis, based on predefined criteria.

Galina Cicanci, country manager of the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group, said that this new system is another step towards digitization and transparency for the private and public sectors. It is also a step forward in aligning the national practices with the good practices of the European Union.
