In 2023, the export of table grapes saw a significant increase compared to the previous year. Producers managed to increase the amount of grapes exported by 11% and the value by about 33%. The number of countries where Moldova exports table grapes increased by 28% compared to 2022. The remarkable progress recorded in this area was highlighted at the National Forum of the table grape sector, held at the Center for Excellence in Viticulture and Winemaking.

During the event, it was mentioned that, despite the global economic challenges, the domestic wine sector has managed to adapt and grow in the last two years. Last year, according to analysis, the table grape production sector set several records.

Data from Viitorul Institute show that income per hectare from exports of table grapes was among the highest compared to other crops. This fact suggests that the cultivation of table grapes is an important source of income for Moldovan farmers. In 2023, the average price per kg was $0.9. To comapre, in 2021 the price was $0.6, and in 2022 – $0.66.

Andrian Digolean, Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, spoke about the subsidies offered for the development of the branch. “For the establishment of table grape plantations, we offer 45 thousand lei per hectare, for the installation or modernization of Pergola type support systems - 200 thousand lei, and for the Gable support system - 75 thousand lei. So, just for one plantation, the aid from the national budget amounts to 245 thousand lei. There are also subsidies for anti-hail and anti-rain systems, anti-freeze equipment, irrigation and drones, covering 50% of the costs. Subsidies of 25-35% per unit are granted for machines and agricultural equipment”, said the official.

Following the decision of the European Parliament, Moldovan grape exporters can access the European Union market without tariff or quantitative restrictions.
