"Wine of Moldova" competition to assess local grape varieties

The "Wine of Moldova" competition will take place on November 21 and 22. This contest defines the Republic of Moldova as an exceptional wine destination and is a celebration of local wine traditions and innovation in the field, IPN reports.

According to the organizers, the competition is organized according to the rules of the International Organization of Vine and Wine, and the competing products will be assessed by a jury of 27 renowned experts from seven countries, both local and international.

The contest focuses on the promotion of local varieties, such as Feteasca Albă, Feteasca Regală, Rara Neagră and Feteasca Neagră, but also on varieties of Moldovan selection, such as Viorica, Floricica, Legenda, Alb de Onițcani and Riton. Wines obtained from blends with European varieties will also be evaluated.

The wines that will accumulate the most points will be awarded gold and silver medals and will be included in a specialized guide. The presented wines will be subjected to a detailed analysis, according to criteria adapted for each category.

Each commission will consist of seven members, four of whom are international experts, and will assess 50 wine samples and 30 spirits per day. The winners will be awarded at the "Wine of Moldova" Awards Gala on November 22, 2024.

The third edition of the national competition "Wine of Moldova" will be organized by the National Office of Vine and Wine, with the assistance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and with support from the strategic partner USAID Moldova, through the Rural Competitiveness and Resilience Activity.
