100% natural juices disappear from shops

The processed juices cannot be named “100% Juice” or “Natural Juice” even if they are made exclusively from juice concentrate plus water, without sugar or sweeteners. The explanation was provided by specialists of the National Agency for Consumer Protection, when asked by Info-Prim Neo why the “100% Juices” started to disappear from shops. According to senior inspector Gabriela Tarita, the names “Natural” and “100%” are allowed only for freshly squeezed juices, not yet for juices in Tetra Pak or in glass packing, which are pasteurized or sterilized. The regulations came into force in 2010, but not all the producers and importers obey them. Gabriela Tarita said the juice producers that still have juice boxes with the names “100%” or “Natural” in stores can use them up on condition that these names are covered up. If the juices are on sale, these names should be covered up by shop employees. The fines for not obeying these provisions are 8 000-10 000 lei for producers and importers and 1 500 -2 000 lei for stores.
