135 persons with COVID-19 receive treatment at home

A number of 135 persons confirmed with COVID-19 are being treated at home. These are persons aged between 18 and 60 who have mild forms of infection and do not suffer from other diseases concomitantly, Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu stated after the April 14 meeting of the National Focal Point, IPN reports.

Tatiana Zatyk, head of the Primary Medical Assistance Division, said the primary medical assistance service has been involved in the treatment of patients with COVID-19 at home as of April 10. The family doctors are those who choose the patients who can be treated at home after analyzing the symptoms. The doctor discusses clinical and epidemiological data over the phone. Based on the symptoms, such as cough, fever and headaches, a diagnosis is made without the person going to the medical institution and without having a COVID-19 test.

The functionary said these persons are included in the statistics of the confirmed infections. The treatment of persons with mild forms of the disease at home is an international practice. This category does not include the children, pregnant women, persons older than 60 and those who suffer from diabetes mellitus, heart and kidney diseases, etc.

Viorica Dumbrăveanu said that 188 patients with COVID-19 are in a serious state and 17 of them were intubated at the National Clinical Institute and the Emergency Medicine Institute. Also, 134 infected persons have recovered.

A state of emergency is in force in Moldova until May 15. The number of infections with the novel coronavirus confirmed in Moldova stands at 1,712. The virus so far killed 36 persons, three of whom were doctors.
