200,000 lei bribe for selling state property at advantageous prices

A director and an engineer of a station of Moldova’s Water Agency were arrested on suspicion that they took 200,000 lei bribe for selling state property at advantageous prices in the absence of a tender contest, IPN reports.

According to the National Anticorruption Center, the denouncer said that the money was asked by the engineer and the director of the Ungheni Technological Irrigation Station in July – November 2015. The two sold reinforced concrete and metal pipes.

Officers of the Center also carried out eight searches at the state-run Costesti-Stanca Hydro-Technical Station. Using the same scheme, 200,000 lei bribe was taken in 2011-2014 for selling water pumping stations and underground pipes outside tender contests.

The culprits face 7 to 15 years in jail and a fine of 160,000 to 200,000 lei for passive corruption. They will also be banned from holding public posts or carrying out particular activities for a period of 10 to 15 years.
