2014 National Award winners announced

The award commission of the National Award announced the 2014 winners of the distinction. Based on the members' recommendations, three awards will be offered for science and technology, four for culture and one for sport. The winners have been chosen by secret vote, IPN reports.

The National Award will be awarded to: Dumitru Blajinu, conductor, composer, violinist, and folklorist, for “his valuable contribution to the collection, preservation and promotion of national folklore”; Tudor Zbarnea – for “his considerable contribution to the development of fine arts in Moldova”; Galina Buinovschi, violin teacher, - for “exceptional performances in the rise of the national school of instrumental interpretation”; Vitalie Rusu, film and theater actor and director, - for “his whole artistic work”.

Historian Sergiu Musteata, PhD and university lecturer, will receive the National Award for his series of works on history and preservation of cultural heritage. Petru Stratulat, professor and doctor habilis in medicine, will receive the award “for founding and implementing a new scientific-practical discipline – Perinatology”. Doctor habilis of biology Stefan Turcanu will be awarded “for scientific and didactic work in the field of domestic animals' physiology and zoology”. Free wrestling coach Nicolae Oriol received an award for “his entire sportive work”.

Overall, 25 nominees have been put forward for the award. Three have been rejected because they didn't meet the regulation requirements regarding the award and two withdrew by themselves.

The National Award will be awarded on August 26 during the festivity dedicated to the Independence Day. Each winner will receive 100,000 lei.
