20th contingent of Moldovan peacekeepers returned from Kosovo

The twentieth National Army contingent to the KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo returned to Chisinau after six months of work. The servicemen carried out operations to patrol, escort, guard and ensure the security of military facilities, as well as historic buildings included in the UNESCO heritage, IPN reports.

At the ceremony to welcome back the KFOR-20 contingent, Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatyi approved of the successful fulfillment of the tasks entrusted to the Moldovan servicemen. He noted that, for the first time, women also participated in this mission, on a voluntary basis, and their training and involvement in international operations will continue.

“During this period, the National Army servicemen proved their knowledge of the profession, of how to precisely carry out interoperability operations and of how to be a credible security provider in this area,” said the minister. Anatolie Nosatyi added that the military women, like men, demonstrated the successful fulfillment of the missions entrusted to them.

The minister also said that, in the context of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the defense institution is making every effort to transform and modernize the National Army, so that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova feel safe. The Ministry continues to implement the programs initiated with foreign partners to outfit the army with the necessary equipment to defend the integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova.

The Republic of Moldova has been participating in peacekeeping operations in Kosovo since 2014. The twentieth contingent of peacekeepers to the KFOR mission was dispatched on January 25.
