2,817 people who reached statutory retirement age in 1999 or earlier and who worked after this for 15 years or more have received increased pensions. The average size of the reviewed pension is 4481 lei, compared to 1982 lei until the review, the National Social Insurance Company CNAS said in a press release.

The size of the raise depends on the duration of the contribution period and the size of the salary from which social security contributions were withheld. The pension review is another stage in meeting the provisions of the Pension System Reform Concept that seek to reduce inequities in the social insurance system and ensure a fair, sustainable and transparent system.

Eligible beneficiaries may further submit applications for pension reviews at the territorial CNAS subsidiaries. Applicant must present their identity cards and employment record books. If they do not have the employment books, they can attach any other documents that confirm employment, such as extracts from employment agreements or employment termination certificates.

The pensions of beneficiaries with a contribution period of less than 15 years will be reviewed next year. The age pensions paid out after 1 January 1999 will be gradually reviewed from 1 January 2021.
