30 days of arrest for Transport Division head

The head of the Chisinau Public Transport and Communications Division Igor Gamretski was placed under arrest for 30 days. He will be held at Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau. The court fully accepted the prosecutor’s request to remand this in custody. The court’s decision will be challenged in the Appeals Court. The functionary was arrested on April 25 in a case concerning the selection of companies for building pay parking lots in Chisinau.

In the same case, deputy mayor of Chisinau Nistor Grozavu was placed under house arrest for 30 days, while businessman Alexander Pinchevsky will be held in a remand prison for 25 days. A warrant was issued for the arrest of ex-municipal councilor Gennady Ivashchenko, who was responsible for the selection of contractors for building paid parking lots, for a period of 30 days, while three company managers were placed under arrest for 20 to 25 days.

At this stage, seven persons were arrested, while four are investigated as suspects outside the remand.

The court issued a warrant for the arrest of businessman Alexander Pinchevsky, who was detained in the case of pay parking lots in Chisinau, for a period of 25 days. This will be held in the remand prison of the National Anticorruption Center. The businessman’s lawyer told journalists that the decision will be challenged, while the accusations made against his client are unfounded.

Deputy mayor of Chisinau municipality Nistor Grozavu, who is accused of abuse of power in the case of the pay parking lots, was placed under house arrest for 30 days. The judge of inquiry took such a decision at the request of prosecutors, IPN reports, quoting the press service of the National Anticorruption Center.

The deputy mayor cooperated with the prosecution bodies and provided important information for this case.

Until May 25, Nistor Grozavu cannot leave his home, cannot talk over the phone or directly with persons involved in this case. He is also obliged to maintain the surveillance electronic devices functional and to wear them permanently and to present himself at the prosecution body or court of law at the stated time.

Also today, April 27, the court is to examine prosecutors’ requests to remand in custody the other six persons arrested in this case, among whom are a former municipal councilor, the Transport Division’s head and managers of parking firms. Another four persons, including the director of Moldova’s Railways, are investigated outside the remand.
