Gheorghe Cotorobai, a retired police officer suspected of raping and murdering a 6 months pregnant young woman, will spend 30 more days in preventive arrest, the Orhei District Court ruled today.

Prosecutors accuse Cotorobai of kidnapping the 19-year-old as she was hitchhiking in Orhei town. After riding a few kilometers as a passenger, the victim was then forced into the trunk. The man took the young woman to his place in Telenești district. The next day, the victim was taken to a buffer strip and beaten to death.

The case went to court on August 1. The man faces 15-20 years in jail or even a life sentence.
