The road toll imposed on vehicles registered outside of Moldova, also known as the vignette, last year brought revenues of 52 million lei, the Customs Service reported.
The tax ranges from 4 euros to 50 euros, depending on duration of stay.
Driving a foreign-plated car without a vignette on Moldova's public roads is punishable by fines from 2,000 to 6,000 lei.
The tax was introduced on 1 November 2012. Paying for the vignette elsewhere than at the customs bureaus and posts is unlawful.
