70-day ban on sport and amateur fishing

The Ministry of Environment announced a prohibition period of 70 days for sport and amateur fishing of all the species of fish and for the extraction of mollusks and crustaceans. Thus, starting with April 1 and ending with June 9 inclusive, fishing in the Manta moors, in the left branches of the Prut and in the Dubasari reservoir is not allowed. An order to this effect was made by Minister of Environment Valeriu Munteanu, IPN reports.

According to the order, fishing in the Nistru River, in the sector between Naslavcea village and Camenca town, and near the Dubasari Hydroelectric Plant, up to Palanca village, will also be banned in the period. The ban also refers to the pisciculture facilities others than those intended for pisciculture activities, except for technological pisciculture measures.

Between April 10 and June 8, fishing will also be banned in the Prut River, from the northern border of Moldova with Ukraine up to Tetcani village, and in the Costesti-Stanca accumulation lake. Fishing in the Cuchurgan lake will be banned until May 31 inclusive.

According to the Pisciculture Service, the fine for poaching varies between 100 and 200 lei.
