A number of 220 houses have been flooded in Cotul Morii village of Hancesti district. About 1,000 residents have been evacuated. The floodwaters entered 216 houses in the neighboring Nemteni. 400 villagers there left their homes and took refuge in safer places. The floods also affected 25 houses in Sarateni village. Beyond figures, there are people who lost everything they had during one night, Info-Prim Neo reports. The flood victims related that their domestic fowl and animals perished. The fields of corn, sunflower and other crops are under water and they will not have sources of livelihood. The young people managed to save some of the possessions, but the older ones left with nothing. “I took only two cabbages, a jar with cheese and one with lard,” said a woman crying. “It was raining and we were staying in the rain. Who will come at 3am to take us under shelter? I don't know what to do now. My heart is aching. How not to cry?” asked a woman from Cotul Morii. “They told us that Cotul Morii was swallowed by floodwaters. Poor us. What should we do? They gave us a mattress and a blanket. We do not have pillows. Our property is all under the water,” said another woman. The authorities announced all the evacuated persons have been accommodates at their relatives or in special centers. They are provided with food, water and medical care, including psychological assistance. Towards evening, the Ministry of Finance is to bring 750,000 lei to the affected areas. The money will be distributed among the victims. After the bridge going to Cotul Morii is repaired, the transportation of the belongings from the flooded village will be resumed. The animals and property is guarded by police officers. The works to build new houses will start in 10-15 days, Minister of Construction and Regional Development Marcel Raducan said. Geodesic and geological assessments will be carried out by then. According to the plan, the works will be completed in November.
