About 400 investors in homebuilding swindled out of 100m lei

Three persons were arrested on suspicion that they swindled about 100 million lei out of almost 400 people for erecting two apartment buildings, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases.

The two blocks started to be built on Ginta Latina St in Chisinau and were to be become available for occupancy in 2013, but this didn’t happen. One building is 70% ready, while the other block has only the foundations and several stores erected.

The contractor sold some of the apartments for several times. Payments were collected until 2015 and receipts weren’t always issued. A part of the money was used for personal purposes, including for purchasing luxury cars.

The three persons arrested on March 29 are investigated for swindle. This is a couple and their son. If they are found guilty, they will serve 8 to 15 years in jail.

At the start of this month, the director, vice director and head of the investment contracts division of the building company “Rom-Prim” SRL were sentenced to ten, nine and, respectively, eight years behind bars for apartment building scams.
