About 800 police officers to maintain public order on Independence Day
No protection fence will be set up in the Great National Assembly Square
on the Independence Day marked on August 27, as earlier. About 800
police officers will be on guard in Chisinau’s central square, where
most of the festivities will take place, Deputy Minister of the Interior
Vasile Dragomir said in a meeting of the state commission for organizing
the August 27 events, Info-Prim Neo reports.
”A human chain formed of employees of the Ministry of the Interior is
much more democratic than a barbed wire fence,” said the deputy
minister.
The police officers will search the suspect persons with metal
detectors. Two teams of the State Guard and Protection Service will also
be on duty in the square.
The sale of alcoholic drinks near the Great National Assembly Square
will be banned.
