Additional financing for Moldova Education Reform Project

The Republic of Moldova will benefit from US$ 10 million additional financing for the Moldova Education Reform Project. The Cabinet approved the ratification of the financing agreement with the International Development Association that is part of the World Bank, IPN reports.

The money will be used to modernize school infrastructure, namely to provide 160 education institutions with school laboratories and IT equipment and 100 schools with aids and equipment for teaching students with disabilities and with special educational needs.

There will be assessed and adjusted the training programs based on gender sensitivity and inclusive education, improved the qualifications of support teachers who work with students with special needs and developed the capacities of the national competent authorities. A new mechanism for financing preschool education institutions will be tested.

The agreement envisions the reallocation of US$1.7 million for renovating two district schools. Initially, the money was earmarked for implementing a new system for remunerating school principals and teachers.

The Moldova Education Reform Project is financed by the World Bank through the International Development Association. This is implemented during April 2013 and June 2020 and has three components: improvement of the quality of education, optimization of the education sector and strengthening of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research’s capacity to monitor the reform.
