Agriculture Ministry provides aid to farmers from flood-hit areas

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry will distribute diesel fuel and fodder for animals to flood victims. It will also provide seeds if the fields affected by hail and floods will have to be resown, Info-Prim Neo reports. The heavy rain and floods caused huge damage to farmers. The necessary quantities of seeds and fodder are now being assessed. The state-run company for research and production “Avicola” has announced it will give by 20 hens to the families affected by floods. About 7,000 hens will be distributed overall. The Scientific Production Association “Porumbeni” will provide seeds to the farmers and families whose crops were damaged by floods, while the Zootechny Institute will supply the flood victims with fodder. The employees of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and its subdivisions will donate the salary for a workday. “When the floodwaters recede, the losses sustained by the companies will be assessed and we will offer them assistance,” said Agriculture Minister Valeriu Cosarciuc. About 1,700 hectares of crop fields have been affected by this summer’s floods, mainly in Ungheni, Hancesti and Briceni districts.
