The AH1N1 virus that caused havoc in 2009-2010 turned from pandemic into seasonal flu, senior virusologist of the Ministry of Health Constantin Spanu told a news conference on January 20, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi, 13 cases of flu type A and 5 cases of flu type B were recorded in Moldova by January 20. Seventeen of the cases were reported in the municipality of Chisinau, while one in Ungheni district. This is a situation typical of the cold season of the year.
The minister also said that the two women who died from flu sought help too late and the doctors could not save them.
Andrei Usatyi assured that last year's situation will not repeat. About 850 persons have been vaccinated by October 30.
Specialists recommend avoiding staying in closed crowded places, avoiding contact with infected persons, using masks, washing the hands, airing the rooms, and seeing a doctor when the first symptoms appear.
Forty-three persons have died of flu in Moldova in the 2009-2010 pandemic period.
