The National Health Insurance Company last year spent 27 million lei, or 77% of the prophylaxis fund, and 10 million lei from the reserve fund on special anti-flu drugs, disinfectants, reagents and individual protection means, the institution's head Mircea Buga told a news conference on Thursday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
60 million lei was earmarked in the 2010 reserve fund for covering unplanned costs, including the ones related to the possible third wave of the AN1N1 pandemic flu.
The pandemic influenza is one of the factors that made the financial situation of the National Health Insurance Company more difficult, besides the economic crisis, Mircea Buga said.
In another development, Mircea Buga said the National Health Insurance Company in 2009 used 92% of the funds planned for covering fully or partly the costs of certain drugs. The number of persons who benefit from such drugs is on the rise. “Over 2.2 million prescriptions have been covered from the obligatory health insurance funds,” Mircea Buga said.
The company's revenues last year totaled 2.85 billion lei, while the spending – 3.1 billion lei. The deficit at the end of 2009 was 192.4 million lei. It was the first time that the Company was in deficit.
The health insurance premium this year, which is calculated on the basis of the insurance premium in percentage form and the annual average salary, is 2,478 lei, by 75 lei more expensive than last year. The obligatory health insurance premium in percentage form is 7% - 3.5% paid by the salary earner and 3.5% paid by the employer.
