Albot makes victorious debut
Radu Albot had a successful start at the first Grand Slam tournament in his career. On January 11, the best tennis player of Moldova beat Russia’s Denis Matsukevich 6-0, 6-2 in the first Australian Open qualifying round, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Albot dominated authoritatively the game that lasted for only 51 minutes. In the next round, on January 12, the 22-year-old tennis player will meet Kazakhstan’s Andrei Golubev, who defeated Erik Chvojka from Canada in three sets.
The other representative of Moldova at the competition in Australia, Roman Borvanov still hopes to qualify. His game with Russia’s Igor Andreev was interrupted in the second set owing to rain. The Moldovan tennis player lost the first set by 6-3 and was led by 4-2 in the second set. He was thus close to being eliminated from the competition.
In order to qualify, Borvanov and Albot must go through three qualifying rounds.
