Alexandru Tanase: I accepted post because I do not agree with many things in justice sector

The newly invested Minister of Justice Alexandru Tanase said he accepted the proposal to hold the post because he does not agree with many things in this sector and considers everyone should use any opportunity to make changes to the better where it is possible, IPN reports, with reference to a press release of the Ministry.

Lawyer Alexandru Tanase, ex-judge and president of the Constitutional Court, returned to the post of minister of justice after holding this between September 2009 and May 2011. In the period, he initiated the justice sector reform, promoting the status of lawyers, notaries and bailiffs, who became professional freelancers. Another change he promoted was the liquidation of the specialized economic and military courts of law. He also contributed to increasing the responsibility degree of judges.

Alexandru Tanase has been a member of the Venice Commission since June 2017. He completed his duties as president of the Constitutional Court in May 2017. He had held the post since 2011, when he renounced the post of minister of justice.
