Alexandru Tanase reelected as president of Constitutional Court

The members of the Constitutional Court reelected Alexandru Tanase as president of the Court. Under the law, the president of the Constitutional Court is elected by secret ballot for a three-year period, IPN reports, quoting a note issued by the institution’s press service.

Alexandru Tanase was the only candidate for the presidency of the Court. He was reelected by a unanimous vote. This is his second term in office.

Alexandru Tanase was named judge of the Constitutional Court for a six-year period in April 2011. Earlier, he held the post of Minister of Justice. He was elected as president of the Constitutional Court on October 4, 2011, after his predecessor Dumitru Pulbere was dismissed following political statements made for the media.
