Anastasia Vdovenco becomes Moldova's best placed female tennis player
Anastasia Vdovenco became the best placed female Moldovan tennis player in the WTA rankings at just 17 years of age. She achieved this thanks to her excellent performances at the ITF tournament in Mallorca, Spain, with a total prize fund of $10,000. On Thursday, January 26, Anastasia qualified for the quarter finals after defeating Italy’s Alice Balducci, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The Moldovan’s next opponent is another Italian and the main favorite to win the competition Anastasia Grymalaska.
The Moldovan athlete reached the tournament after three qualification rounds, which brought her the first point in the world rankings of her career. After qualifying for the quarter finals, she will obtain at least 4 points.
So far, only three other female tennis players from Moldova, Ana Batari, Iulia Helbet and Daniela Ciobanu managed to obtain points in professional tournaments.
