Anatol Matasaru was set free from the courtroom on Wednesday after two consecutive hearings. The court of Buiucani district rejected the prosecutor’s request to extend the arrest warrant for another 90 days. The court decided to merge the two cases opened against Matasaru on accusations of organization of the April 7 mass disorder and aggression of a cameraman of Moldova 1 and deterioration of his camera, and the “scraps’ case”. The hearing on the merits of the case will start in October.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Anatol Matasaru said that he was surprised as he did not expect to be released by the first court. He also said that according to his sad experience, the first court usually accepts the prosecutor’s application. He considers that the decision of the Buiucani court could be a first sign that justice in Moldova regains its independence and starts to work in accordance with the law.
Matasaru said he went out of the courtroom afraid that he will be arrested again, as in the previous cases, without warrant and over groundless accusations. “They take you where they want, find plaintiffs, who have already written the applications, and only then start to prepare the document needed for the detention,” Anatol Matasaru said. He got home well, but is anxious about the further developments.
Matasaru is accused of organizing public disorder and causing damage of 147 million lei to the state by participating in the deterioration of the buildings of the Parliament and the Presidential Office, in the hoisting of foreign flags, etc. “These ‘proofs’ were collected by tens of prosecutors,” he stressed.
As to the accusation that he damaged the camera of the public TV channel, he said that the images broadcast by the media show that the camera continued to film after the incident. He also said that it was the cameraman who caused the confrontation. It should be noted that the destroyed camera was valued at 388,100 lei.
“This group of prosecutors, Popa, Coiman, Colonel Cociorba, invented this case and fabricated the evidence with the aim of isolating me until the elections,” Matasaru said, referring to the ‘scraps’ case. “The injured police officer wrote the application on the day when the warrant for my arrest was issued.”
Anatol Matasaru will be on the outside, but was banned from leaving the country. Prosecutor Sergiu Rosu said he would appeal the decision passed by the Buiucani court to the Court of Appeals.
