Anatol Matasaru, who is famous for the unusual forms of protest against corruption in justice and the police he employs, will remain under arrest for 30 days more. His arrest warrant was extended by the judge of Rascani district on Friday, Matasaru’s lawyer Victor Pantaru has told Info-Prim Neo. Anatol Matasaru was arrested after the April 7 protests. He is held in the penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau and will remain there until July 7. Victor Pantaru said that he will appeal against the judge’s decision. “It is absurd that the persons that were violent on April 7 are on the outside, while several persons are in prison because somebody wants so. Anatol Matasaru threw a stone and treated somebody rudely, but we should examine the context in which he acted so,” the lawyer said. Victor Pantaru also said that Matasaru gave up the hunger strike because he saw it had no effect on the authorities. He is further investigated for causing public disorder. “In another legal case, Anatol Matasaru is accused of maltreating the police officers that arrested him,” the lawyer said. “It is evident that they repeat the scenario used in the case of Gabriel Stati and Sergiu Mocanu. He was expected outside by four hefty persons with a car with Transnistrian license number (police officers in civvies – e.n.). I presume that if Anatol Matasaru had been freed, they would have arrested him again. Anatol Matasaru was arrested in the stairs of his house on April 8 and taken to the General Police Commissariat located at 6 Tighina Street. According to the lawyer, the persons in civvies that arrested him violated the regulations and used force against him. Matasaru, known as a severe critic of the law enforcement bodies, was filmed during the April 7 protests. Last winter, he dressed a donkey in police clothes and a pig in prosecutor’s clothes and protested peacefully together with the animals in front to the General Police Commissariat and the General Prosecutor’s Office.
