The discussions on the purchase of gas from Russia are constructive in character and the efforts to find a common point in the interests of the sides are intense, Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spînu stated after the talks held in St. Petersburg, IPN reports.

Andrei Spînu said that in the discussions with Gazprom head Alexei Miller, he presented Moldova’s position – that they want a contract for the supply of gas similar to the one applied the previous years. As regards Moldovagaz’s debt, the Government of the Republic of Moldova considers an audit should be conducted in this regard.

The negotiations with Gazprom continue today.

Prime Minster Natalia Gavrilița stated in Brussels yesterday that the Republic of Moldova is interested in signing a long-term contract for the purchase of gas at a price that it can afford. They expect the Russian side will focus on the economic, pragmatic dimension at the talks. The negotiations in St. Petersburg made particular headway, but long-term alternatives are also looked into.
