SA Apa-Canal Chisinau runs the risk of being disconnected from the electric power supply as it accumulated again large debts to Union Fenosa. The announcement was made by the company's vice director Ion Burdila at an ordinary meeting of the Chisinau City Hall on Monday.
According to Burdila, such a situation is due to the difference between the collections and the costs. The water supplier is regularly issued with notices that it will be cut off from the power supply. If Apa-Canal remains without electricity, the water supply in the municipality of Chisinau will be in danger, the official said, adding that the company's administration approved a timetable for repaying the debt for power and will transfer by 1 million lei daily to Union Fenosa during four days.
In this connection, Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca stressed that the new water and sewerage charges are reasonable given the situation of the water supplier and the charges in other settlements of the country.
Dorin Chirtoaca made known the charges used in other towns: Stefan Voda – 13.5 lei per cubic meter, Lipcani – 17.64 lei, Anenii Noi – 19.4, Edinet – 17.7 lei, Soroca – 10.82 lei, Cantemir – 14.75 lei, Balti – 10.5 lei. At the same time, the economic entities in Taraclia pay 90 lei per cubic meter of water, in Criuleni – 60 lei, in Anenii Noi – 74 lei, in Donduseni – 87 lei. “These charges have been used for many years and the local authorities provide no compensations. Are the end-users in other towns richer than in Chisinau?” Dorin Chirtoaca asked.
The mayor also said that the City Hall is formulating regulations to provide nominative compensations for certain groups of people for public utilities and for trips by public units of transport.
On September 15, the Chisinau Municipal Council decided to raise the water and sewerage charges from October 1. The household consumers will pay 9.19 lei per cubic meter of water and sewage, as against 5.07 lei at present (+ about 80%). The consumers that are not connected to the sewerage system will pay 8.06 lei per cubic meter of drinking water.
The economic entities will pay 22.96 lei per cubic meter of water, in contrast to 20.14 lei currently (+14%). The technical water for thermoelectric plants will cost 6.69 lei per cubic meter, as opposed to 5.83 lei presently.
