Apartment for medal won in European Judo Championship

Judoka Sergiu Toma, who won a silver medal in the European Judo Championship held in Turkey several days ago, received an apartment from the Foundation for Moldova’s Development “Edelweiss”. The keys were handed over by First Deputy Head of Parliament and “Edelweiss” founder Vlad Plahotniuc, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Foundation’s Public Relations Department. “From 1997, Moldova has not witnessed such a performance. Sergiu showed that we are a small country, but with many talents. Moldova has European and world champions who promote its image abroad. It is a pride for us and a victory for our people,” Vlad Plahotniuc said in a meeting with Sergiu Toma. “Sergiu has trained for five hours daily from the age of 9. This is impressive. We must create conditions so that athletes like Sergiu fight for Moldova and promote its image,” Vlad Plahotniuc said and wished the judoka more medals and trophies. For his part, the Moldovan sportsman said the results achieved in the European Championship in Turkey show that his work was not in vain. He said his dream is to win medals in the Olympic Games. This is the second European medal won by the Moldovan athletes as a result of the successful cooperation between the Judo Federation of Moldova and the founder of “Edelweiss” Vlad Plahotniuc, who is the Federation’s honorific president. In 2010, the team of Moldovan judokas won a gold medal in the European Judo Cup in Hamburg. According to the communiqué, Vlad Plahotniuc has supported the Judo Federation of Moldova since 2004. Owing to his assistance, the Moldovan sportsmen were able to take part in numerous international sports competitions and to improve their abilities.
