API members commit themselves to impartially cover election campaign
The politically unaffiliated media outlets that are members of the Independent Press Association (API) pledge to impartially and evenhandedly cover the election campaign for the 2009 parliamentary elections, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a statement, the API says that “during the election campaign, the API members will continue to be objective and will not admit political partisanship in the periodicals that they represent.” “All the political organizations and officially registered independent candidates will be offered space for electoral publicity, on the basis of the principle of free access for all the election contenders,” the statement says.
The API members subscribe to the Charter of Free and Fair Elections formulated by the Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections “Coalitia-2009” and call on the electronic media outlets and print media in Moldova to do the same.
The Association also calls on all the editors to not allow themselves influenced by the electoral opponents and refrain from manipulating the public opinion, observing the principles of professional ethics and pluralism of opinions.
The Independent Press Association is a public organization founded to support the politically unaffiliated media outlets. It brings together 16 national and local newspapers, a news agency, the Independent Journalism Center and three freelance journalists.
