Armasu: You cannot ask them to park legally without having parking lots

Head of Traffic Police Division Sergiu Armasu is skeptical towards the initiative of the capital’s Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, of towing away illegally parked vehicles on sidewalks and lawns. “You cannot ask a driver not to park on a sidewalk, if you don’t offer him a legal alternative parking spot. I do not think that the Government will accept a bill, on this matter”, stated Sergiu Armasu, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The head of Traffic Police Division points out that a similar initiative was proposed to the Government two years ago, but was rejected due to the lack of sufficient parking lots in the capital. When it comes to the towing equipment and the towing procedure itself, Sergiu Armasu claims that there will be no problems, since there are many private economic agents who would readily assume this responsibility. Head of Public Transport and Road Division Adrian Boldurescu claims there are possibilities to build parking lots in every sector of the capital, excluding the city center. “The project is 100% feasible, with the exception of the old city perimeter, comprised between streets Ismail, Mihai Viteazul, Alexei Mateevici and Albisoara; we don’t have parking lot spaces in this area”, mentioned Adrian Boldurescu. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca stated on Saturday, June 23, during a press release, that he intends to present the Municipal Council with a plan for towing illegally parked cars. The Mayor added that modifications to the Law on this matter are also necessary for the initiative to be efficient.
