The Prosecutor General’s Office identified serious violations committed by the Air Command of the National Army when discarding technical aviation assets from planes MIG-29, whose components contained a large quantity of precious metals, IPN reports.
According to prosecutors, the discarding procedure was performed in 2011-2014 with serious violations. The discarded equipment contained over 11 kilograms of silver, 245 grams of gold, 33 grams of platinum and 1.4 grams of palladium. The damage caused to the state was estimated at 507,000 lei.
Decision-makers of the National Army face up to 15 years behind bars for appropriation and falsification of public documents.
The Ministry of Defense announced it launched an internal inquiry to elucidate all the circumstances of this case.
