Representatives of the Association of Historians say “Moldova's Encyclopedia” needs a new conception that will replace the Soviet one. In this connection, they demand that the composition of the national commission in charge of the publication of the encyclopedia be changed.
The historians expressed their position at a news conference held at Info-Prim Neo News Agency on November 4. The commission for the publication of the encyclopedia must be composed of persons with authority. The historians said they have a list of candidates, but did not give names or details.
“If the Academy of Sciences of Moldovan agrees, the Government could annul the decision of 2007 concerning the commission's composition and set up a new commission,” said historian Igor Casu.
“Only 30-40% of the encyclopedia must be modified. Changes should be made to the material about geography, history, culture and language.”
Professor Pavel Parasca, who is a member of the Association of Historians, said that emphasis should be laid on the historical education as there is no place for Moldova in Europe without national identity.
The Association's president of honor Alexandru Mosanu said that the dubious value of the encyclopedia and of the integrated history textbooks is due to the fact that the former Communist government ideologized Moldova's past.
The book “Moldova's Encyclopedia” came out late in August this year.
