An Austrian foundation named “Vier Pfoten International” assumes all the expenditures to daily clean from parasites, vaccinate and sterilize some 35 stray dogs from Chisinau. The project is to start on March 23 and will last 6 – 8 weeks. Their mobile clinic will be installed in the Chisinau zoo, as the contract was signed with the City Hall on Thursday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“We're aware of the problems that the stray dogs can cause to the city's residents, but we must acknowledge the animals need to be treated humanely. We're glad mayor Dorin Chirtoaca has this stance and called our organization to curb the multiplication of masterless dogs,” said Ioana Dungler from Vier Pfoten International.
“The dogs will be caught by hand, and only in special cases we'll use guns with tranquilizers. After being treated the dogs will be returned to the places they were caught in,” said Stelica Patrascu from the same organization.
The Chisinau residents are urged to report the places where there gather vagrant dogs, as a phone number to call in will be announced later. According to health direction chief Mihai Moldovan, the city hall plans to develop its own facilities to sterilize and keep the dogs.
Vier Pfoten International has been acting for over 20 years, caring for stray animals and has sterilized dogs in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovakia, Macedonia and Greece.
