Authentic stories about violence in “Casa M” play

Authentic stories featuring women beaten by husbands and children abused physically and sexually are depicted in rural language in the play “Casa M” that was directed by Luminita Ticu, Info-Prim Neo reports. The play was presented at the Chisinau Center of Culture “Ginta Latina” on December 6 in the evening. It starred the actresses of the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” Mihaela Strambeanu, Jana Puica, Ina Surdu and Irina Vacarciuc. Project director Mihai Fusu said the play is about the life of women who experienced domestic violence and is based on interviews with real persons conducted in Chisinau, rural areas and at the prison in Rusca. “Casa M” should be regarded as an action that aims to prevent domestic violence, which is typical not only of Moldova, but of all the countries,” said Eugenia Benigni, OSCE Moldova representative for human trafficking and domestic violence, who supports this project. One fourth of women worldwide suffer from physical, sexual, psychological and economic violence. The women subjected to domestic violence represent 80% of the victims of human trafficking. Half of the children who witnessed domestic violence will reproduce the same scenes of violence in life. The head of “Gender Center” Valentina Bodrug said this play is only one of the actions that society must take to prevent and combat violence. If the victims of domestic violence do not report the cases of abuse and do not seek help, this phenomenon will intensify, she stated. The play “Casa M” is performed all over Moldova within the campaign “16 days of activism against gender violence” that was launched on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women marked on November 26. It will last by December 10.
