The authorities intend to expand by 25% the coverage of specific drug treatment and rehabilitation services for more rare diseases. These are organic aciduria, familial Mediterranean fever, hemophilia, cystic fibrosis. This is provided in the National Rare Diseases Program for 2024-2028 which was approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.
The program provides for a 25% increase in the number of rare diseases detected by 2028. The approval of the program will also help increase by 25% by 2028 the number of medicines used to treat rare diseases and reduce premature mortality from these diseases.
In the Republic of Moldova, there are about 2,500 patients with rare diseases. More than half of them are children.
