Average life expectancy in Moldova is 71 years

The average life expectancy in Moldova in 2014 was 71.5 years, including 67.5 years for men and 75.4 years for women. In a report, the National Bureau of Statistics says that after 2005, when the general mortality rate and infant mortality rate were higher than the previous years, the expectation of life started to rise, IPN reports.

Compared with 2013, the death rate in 2014 increased to 11.1 deaths per 1,000 people. The infant mortality rate was also higher – 9.6 dead infants under one year for every 1,000 infants born alive.

Women live by 7.9 years longer than men. This discrepancy is due to the high premature mortality among men. The average life expectancy of the people living in urban areas is by 4.5 years longer than of those from rural areas in the case of men and by 3.5 years in the case of women.
