Baby hit by wrong-way car
An 8-month baby and his grandmother were hospitalized with multiple traumas after they had been hit by car that was driving the wrong way on a street in the center of Chisinau.
Paulina Ichimovschi, Traffic Police PR officer, told Info-Prim Neo the accident happened Thursday, June 23, at the intersection of Puskin and Mihail Kogalniceanu streets. The 50-year-old woman was crossing the street with the baby in her arms, after she had assured no cars were coming from the left, as the street had a single traffic lane. However, a 25-year-old man was driving his Audi 100 the wrong way and hit them. The baby fell on the car’s windscreen, while the woman was casted a few meters from the vehicle. Boy’s father was immediately announced.
Both victims were taken by a passing driver to the Emergency Hospital. According to Silvia Babara, managing doctor of the Emergency Service, an ambulance had already been sent when they were announced the victims would be brought by another vehicle. The neurosurgeon that examined the baby found he had suffered a head trauma. The child was taken to the Center for Mother’s and Child’s Healthcare, where doctors discovered he had a skull fracture and face contusions.
“If doctors say child’s traumas are severe, the driver will face penal sanctions, otherwise he will get away only with administrative sanctions”, Paulina Iachimovschi told Info-Prim Neo.
