Bacioi village high school to bear name of departed poet Grigore Vieru
The lyceum from Bacioi village, the Chisinau municipality, will bear the name of departed poet Grigore Vieru. According to Chisinau mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, the request had come from the administration of the high school, when the poet was still alive, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Chief of the General Direction of Education, Youth and Sports Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb stated on Monday, February 9, at the staff meeting at the City Hall, that in December, 2008 Grigore Vieru accepted that the Bacioi lycee should bear his name.
The Bacioi councilors are to settle into shape the formal procedures till the end of this week. The action is a part of the series of events that the Chisinau authorities jointly with the Moldovan Writers’ Union and the poet’s family are to unfold, as for instance the 74th anniversary of Grigore Vieru to be marked on Saturday, February 14.
The poet’s last book “The mystery that protects me,” issued by the publishing house from Iasi “Princeps Edit” is among the events that will take place. Grigore Vieru himself intended to do this on the occasion of his birthday.
The book comprises the best poems written by Grigore Vieru, a compilation of aphorisms “Moving to infinity,” as well as a series of articles of literary critique taking a close view to the poet's works. The volume has 750 pages and comprises a biography and bibliography by poet Daniel Corbu, a preface by Mihai Cimpoi and an afterword by Theodor Codreanu.
The Chisinau councilors are also to endorse the draft decision on conferring poet Grigore Vieru the title of an honor citizen, at the sitting of the Chisinau Council planned for Thursday, February 12.
Many actions of commemorating the poet will take place this week in the Chisinau schools, and such events will be very special in the primary school in Ciocana district that bears Grigore Vieru’s name.
Grigore Vieru passed away on January 18 after a car crash near Chisinau.
