Balti food safety functionary under investigation for suspected meat steal

A veterinarian at the Balti Food Safety Department is under investigation for allegedly stealing copious amounts of meat daily on the pretext of collecting samples for safety checks.

According to the National Antricorruption Center, during January 2021-February 2022, he would steal tens of kilograms of meat every day, by taking more than normally needed for safety checks, to later sell it in the shops of his associates.

Searches were conducted today in the man’s home, office and car, where he was keeping 15,000 euros, over 15,000 dollars and 7,600 Swiss francs in cash. The suspect was arrested for 72 hours and taken to the NAC for hearings.
