Barbed wire fence becomes souvenir in Ungheni
The barbed wire fence removed from the border between Moldova and Romania is now a souvenir in Ungheni. “These souvenirs symbolize the freedom of Ungheni district and we want to show everybody that we work in order to bring Europe in Moldova and move towards Europe,” the chairman of the Ungheni District Council Ion Harea has told Info-Prim Neo.
The souvenir represents a piece of barbed wire on a wooden support where there is written: “Barbed wire placed at the border between Moldova and Romania, along the Prut River, 1954-2010”.
There were made over 200 souvenirs that will be given to participants in the Investment Forum that will be held in Ungheni on October 8 and 9.
The barbed wire fence started to be removed on February 10 this year. The Ungheni District Council adopted a relevant decision in 2008, but the Communist administration hindered the process. There were removed about 360 kilometers of such fence.
