Barrage yields in Obileni, homes flooded in Sarateni

A part of the protection barrage in Obileni village of Hancesti district yielded last night, while the barrage in Sarateni cracked and the water is pouring in, Emergencies Service spokeswoman Liliana Puscasu has told Info-Prim Neo. Over a meter of the barrage in Obileni broke at about 1am. Thirty-five rescuers stopped the opening up by 3pm. The risk of flooding persists. A number of houses located near the barrage have been flooded in Sarateni. About 300 rescuers and carabineers have worked nonstop during four days to reinforce the dam. Fissures appeared in it allowing water to pass. Thousands of sacks of sand were put up on a distance of 5 kilometers in order to protect the village. The barrages are being reinforced in Macaresti (Ungheni), Chetrosu, Gotesti, Tiganca (Cantemir), Valeni, Vadul lui Isac, Slobozia Mare (Cahul) and in other villages of Hancesti. The level of the Nistru water also increased and the barrages in Vadul lui Voda, Dubasari, Parata, Varnita, Puhaceni, Roscana, Gura Bacului, and Serpeni have been built up. Rescuers and firefighters from Chisinau work in the settlements that are in danger of being flooded. A number of 2,379 persons have been evacuated from the flood-hit areas.
