The Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC) drafted a conceptual bill to institute differentiated taxes for issuing licenses, depending on coverage. Currently, the tax is 2,500 lei for everyone. BCC chairman Marian Pocazonoi has told IPN that the bill will be submitted to Parliament in September.
According to Marian Pocazonoi, the bill was also sent to broadcasters, civil society, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Finance, and the National Anticorruption Center for information.
The Council’s chairman said it is not equitable for a local TV channel and a TV channel with national coverage to pay the same license tax. Under the bill, the tax for local broadcasters will be raised to 5,000 lei, while for broadcasters with national coverage to 200,000 lei.
In Moldova there are 121 broadcasters, including 59 radio stations, 38 ether TV channels, 19 cable TV channels, and five satellite channels.
The broadcast license is issued for a period of seven years.
