Since October 16, 2015, when the licenses of Banca de Economii (BEM), Banca Socială, and Unibank were revoked, and until December 31, 2024, the three banks have collected a total of 2,981,941.3 thousand lei, IPN reports.
The National Bank of Moldova (BNM) specifies that both the funds available in the accounts of BEM, Banca Socială, and Unibank at the time of license withdrawal, as well as the amounts collected later by liquidators, are used to cover liquidation expenses and to settle claims related to emergency loans.
From the license revocation date until December 31, 2024, liquidators have paid part of the debts related to emergency loans granted before their appointment to both the National Bank and the Ministry of Finance. According to the order of credit claim settlements, these loans fall into the first class of claims for repayment.
“The liquidators of the three banks continue efforts to recover loans. They are collaborating with investigative and judicial authorities, working with debtors, with the ultimate goal of recovering loans contracted from these banks and repaying emergency loans granted by the National Bank of Moldova,” the BNM stated in a press release.
Between November 2014 and October 2015, the National Bank of Moldova granted the three banks emergency loans backed by state guarantees, totaling 14,121,758,000 lei.
