The Executive Committee of Gagauzia intends to take a decision to oblige the public service providers to send bills to the population not only in the official language of Moldova, but also in Russian and Gagauz, which are also official in the autonomous region. The matter was discussed in a recent working meeting of the executive body, IPN reports.
The Governor of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal argued many elderly people complain that they do not understand what they have to pay for. “The Law on the Use of Languages is applied in Gagauzia and the public utilities must obey it. If a resident of Gagauzia wants to get a receipt in the Gagauz language, he must be able to obtain it,” he stated.
The decision and necessary documents will be prepared by the head of the General Department of Constructions, Infrastructure Development and Communications of Gagauzia Cornel Dudnic. It is projected that the new norms concerning the issuing of bills on the territory of Gagauzia will take effect at the beginning of 2014.
Under the legislation of Gagauzia, there are three official languages in the autonomous unit – Moldovan, Gagauz and Russian.
