Bloc “PPEM-Iurie Leanca” excludes alliances with parties of the left

The Electoral Bloc “European People’s Platform of Moldova - Iurie Leanca” (PPEM) announced that it will not hold negotiations to form alliances with the Party of Socialists, the Party of Communists or the Our Party. A decision to this effect was taken by the platform’s Political Council on June 16, the Bloc’s press service has said, quoted by IPN.

The Council members said that after analyzing thoroughly the campaign that preceded the June 14 local elections, the Electoral Bloc ascertained that even if it was difficult and with multiple violations, the achieved results are acceptable.

“It is a very good start for a new political force that hasn’t been yet registered and that met with enormous pressure on the part of the state institutions and other election runners during the campaign. A number of candidates representing the PPEM were intimidated, but these didn’t give up. As a result of these elections, we can say that we passed a difficult test,” said the Bloc’s leader Iurie Leanca.

He also said that the process of creating the European People’s Party of Moldova will be completed in the immediate future. Measures are now being taken to strengthen the local bodies and to prepare the documents needed for registering the party.

According to the Central Election Commission, the Electoral Bloc “PPEM – Iurie Leanca” in the elections to choose members of the Chisinau Municipal Council polled 11.55% of the vote (6 seats), while in the elections for the Balti Municipal Council – 4.81% (1 seat). In the elections to choose village and town councilors, the Bloc gained 5.89% of the vote, while in those to choose districts councilors – 7.60%.
