The students and teachers of the lyceum of Romanesti village of Straseni district were evacuated on March 24 after a person phoned at the school and informed that an explosive device was placed in the institution’s basement. No explosive was found as a result of searches, IPN reports.
The lyceum’s director Petru Delipovici has told IPN that the call was made at about 11am, when the students had lessons. He was told about the phone call by a technical employee who answered the phone. The police were alerted immediately and about 170 persons, including students, teachers and other employees, were evacuated to the school’s stadium. Afterward, the students went home, leaving the schoolbags in classrooms.
The director does not know what reasons the person who phoned had to resort to such an act. Tomorrow the students will return to classes and the lessons that didn’t take place today will be taught on other days.
Contacted by IPN, press officer of the General Police Inspectorate Sabina Cojusnean said the caller was identified. This is a 78-year-old woman who phoned also the local mayor’s office. The woman said she found out about the explosive from another person and wanted to make this information public. An investigation is under way.
The lyceum in Romanesti is attended by 160 students.
